The #Open17Water challenge
Ngày 23/09/2020

The Challenge

The impacts of climate change include more extreme weather, leading to floods and drought that are putting urban communities under increasing stress. How can crowdsourcing and citizen science be used to monitor and address these challenges? Pitch your idea here on how to tackle Urban Water Resilience and you may be selected for online and in-person coaching, to develop your idea into an impactful project.

The Prize

·       The top 50 applicants participate in an online coaching programme lasting 5 weeks at 2hrs/week (19 October-16 November).

·       Up to five outstanding teams are invited to participate in a challenge-based innovation workshop, organized by CERN (two weeks, late 18-29 January).

·       The top two teams win a trip to present their projects to United Nations experts and impact investors in Geneva, Switzerland (March).

How it Works:

·       Pitch your idea on this page by clicking on "Pitch Your Idea"

·       Then select the idea option

·       Record your pitch in 60sec

·       In your title make sure to add the hashtag #Open17Water

·       If you're pitching your idea as a team, please tag each team member’s Goodwall page in your post

Application deadline is 4 October 2020, midnight CEST

Selection Criteria:

The selection criteria for your idea are Novelty, Relevance and Feasibility, as well as whether Crowdsourcing is involved.

·       Novelty – your idea should be about your own idea. Describe a specific challenge you want to solve, rather than general problems.

·       Relevance – your idea should deal with either water scarcity (drought, access to clean water) or water hazards (floods, sea-level rise…).

·       Feasibility – Be ambitious, but stay realistic: your idea should be something that, with some help, you could actually achieve.

·       Crowdsourcing – Explain how you will get people involved in helping you achieve your idea. For examples, see http://openseventeen.org/ "Get Inspired".

Don't worry if you don't meet all four criteria. Enthusiasm counts, too! Part of the #Open17Water challenge is to help you improve your idea.
